At the invitation of IEAS, Professor MACHI Senjuro of Nishogakusha University and Professor GUO Xiumei of Juntendo University hold seminars at IEAS on 5 May 2017. Professor Machi presented his research findings on the manuscripts of bitan between Qing government officials and Japanese scholars in the Edo period.
The original copies of all the manuscripts stated in Professor Machi’s seminar are now being preserved at the library of Nishogakusha University - ranging from the topic of daily conversation to specific issues. The theme of the seminar of Professor Guo was medical information discovered in bitan. She analyzed the manuscripts of bitan between a traditional Chinese doctor and his students and friends in Japan in the Edo period. The seminars of two professors allow IEAS professors and students to hone in their areas of academic study and research.
These two seminar are coorganized by Institute of Ancient Classics of Zhejiang University and IEAS of Zhejiang Gongshang University. Students from Zhejiang University, IEAS and Henan University attended these seminars. IEAS is a state base of research on bitan. Since 2015, IEAS has invited renowned scholars to come to IEAS. It allows IEAS to delve deeper into this unexploited academic field. IEAS will continue to endeavor for academic excellenceat the global level.
