Our Honorary Dean Prof Ezra Vogel is the Henry Ford II Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus at Harvard, the second Director of Harvard's East Asian Research Center (1972-1977), Chairman of the Council for East Asian Studies (1977-1980), Director of the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations at the Center for International Affairs (1980-1987), Director of the Fairbank Center (1995-1999), the first Director of the Asia Center (1997-1999) and Co-Director of the Asia Foundation Task Force on East Asian Policy Recommendations for the New Administration (2001). In 2013, he was presented the Award for Outstanding Contribution to China Studies.Since his appointment to be the Honarary Dean of IEAS in 2016, he has contributed greatly to our academic advancement, including recommendation of publication Li Dai Yi Ben Zhuang Kao Zhu ( Glossary Explanations and Bibliographic Annotations of Japan in Official Chinese Dynastic History ) to global academia. Honarary Dean Professor Vogel also acts as consultant to our forthcoming publication Sino - Japanese Cultural Exchange Library. Daishujo Publishing House in Japan will release the first book of this library in early 2018.
Honorary Dean Professor Vogel is now busy with writing a new book about Sino-Japanese relations. Upon the invitation of the Center for Confucian Entrepreneurs and East Asian Civilizations at Zhejiang University , Honorary Dean Prof Vogel visited Hangzhou on 3 November 2017 and delivered a lecture. Professor Chen Xiaofa and Madam Xue Xiaomei of IEAS took this very precious chance to report our latest development plan to Honorary Dean Prof Vogel and invited him to attend One Belt One Road and the Story of China Annual Forum, which will be organized by the Chinese Society for Historians of China’s Foreign Relations in 2018.
