With the sponsorship of Japan Foundation, the College of Humanities of Zhejiang University and IEAS co-organized the colloquium "The Interitance and Creativity of East Asian Civilization" at Yuanzheng Xixi Hotel in Hangzhou from 18 to 19 November 2017. The theme in this year was East Asian bitan studies. Scholars from 26 universities and academic institutions in China, Japan, Korea and France attended this colloquium. Other supporting units for this colloquium included Special Unit for the National Research Project of Review and Research of Bitan Literature, Ministry of Eduation, Culture, Sports and Technology of Japanese Government, the Society of Sino-Japanese Relations History in Zhejiang Province, Journal of Zhejiang University and the Wen Xian magazine of Chinese National Library.
In this colloquium, the scope of presentation topics covered bitan in medical science, travelogue, floating people, the style, nature and characteristice of bitan. Dean Professor WANG Yong of IEAS, Mr TABUCHI Yoshiki of Tagagikakawa Kobunnsyo in Japan and the representative of Soonchunhyang University in Korea gave keynote speeches. More than thirty prominent academic figures presented their latest research findings. Professors and students of Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics and Sichuan University attended and actively participated in discussions.
Bitan is a unique medium for communication in East Asian cultural circle. For more than one thousand years, it formed an irreplaceable continuous function of endless exchanges of messages, cultures and thoughts.
