On 6 May 2016, IEAS hosted the Encyclopedic Celebrity Forum of Various Schools(百家百科讲坛之学者论坛) at the International Conference Center under the coordination with various departments of Zhejiang Gongshang University. Mr Zhao Shengliang (赵声良) of Dunhuang Academy and Professor Lu Shengjiang (卢盛江) of Nankai University presented on Dunhuang Art and the Civilization of Great Tang Dynasty (敦煌艺术与大唐文明), and Wenjing Mifu Lun and Kûkai as One the Eight Great Buddhist Masters Who Emigrated to Tang Dynasty (入唐八家之一空海大师与《文镜秘府论》) respectively.
According to Mr Zhao, most Buddhist temples of Tang Dynasty had already been destroyed but the magnificent treasure trove of Buddhist Dunhuang art was kept at Dunhuang where is located in the desert, about 15 miles south-east of the town of Dunhuang in north western China. Through the statues and wall paintings in the 492 cells and cave sanctuaries in Mogao (莫高), the Buddhist art spanning 1,000 years can be appreciated.
Professor Lu presented that Shingon sect (Japanese: 真言(True Word)) was founded by Kôbô Daishi (Kûkai) (空海大师) at the beginning of the Heian period (9th century). Kûkai is not only an important figure in the history of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange but also in Japanese cultural history. Professor Lu shared his research outcome of Wenjing Mifu Lun with IEAS students and professors.
