IEAS draws on a broad spectrum of eminent scholars in many of the humanities, history and social science disciplines, and serves as the focal point for researches related to East Asia. IEAS acts as a coordinating institution that brings together an interdisciplinary group of faculty members whose research and teaching focus primarily on China, Japan, Korea and bordering countries, combined with a 2-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, means every student has direct access to the academic expertise of our faculty. The intimate learning environment at IEAS allows for close small-group collaboration and one-to-one supervision. At present, there are eight full-time professors, one honorable professor, twenty one visiting professors, eleven external research associates and two foreign academic experts. Former Japanese ambassador Mr Anami Koresige is a honorable professor of IEAS. Director of National Studies Institute at Yonsei University Dr Baik Young Seo is the honorable director of our Institute of Korea Studies. Internationally renowned scholars Dr Tang Chongnan, Dr Liu Jiangyong and Dr Yang Dongliang are professors of our visiting faculty. We always welcome visiting foreign experts with expertise that reinforce and enhance understanding East Asia locally, regionally and globally.
