In 2015, Dean Professor WANG Yong was presented The Japan Foundation Awards for his extant theoretical constructions of East Asian studies such as Book Road. In October 2017, Dean Professor WANG Yong donated 1,000,000 Japanese Yen from the cash prize of The Japan Foundation to create Incentive Award for East Asian Studies(hereunder the Award). The Award is merit-based, providing incentive payment for postgraduate students to undertake research project of East Asian studies. It is for the development of academia in East Asian studies, maintenance of good momentum of our University in East Asian studies and acceleration of further development of East Asian studies in China. With a simple and straightforward application procedure, the Award is mainly handed out for the regional research of East Asian studies but national research on individual East Asian country is also considerable. 

On 12 December 2017, the following four students were presented Incentive Award for East Asian Studies valued at RMB 8000 yuan : 
( a ) Miss CHEN Ling Che major in Japanese Language and Culture (2015 intake). From 2 December 2017 to 14 December 2017, she conducted a significant research and copied unpublished primary bitan data of Zhang Binglin at the National Diet Library ( Nippon KokuritsuKokkai Toshokan ) in Tokyo,  
( b ) Mr Fan Xiaoyang and Mr Xu Yanbin major in Asian and African Languages and Cultures (2016 intake). They presented papers at the annual International Symposium on Image Portrayal held at Ulsan University , Korea from 30 November 2017 to 3 December 2017 under the co-organization of the Japanese Department of Ulsan University, IEAS of Zhejiang Gongshang University and the Institute for Japanese Religions and Cultural History of Waseda University. Their topics were premium Chinese ink stick for calligraphy and brush painting in Japan, and Zhu Shunshui's wine cultural exchange with Japanese literati. With a chance to have academic interactions with scholars from three countries, two of them accessed opportunities to continually grow academically, develop and broaden their horizons. Such participation not just for a symposium but to impart valuable insights that will contribute to their future East Asian researches.
( c ) Miss Shang Peiton major in in Asian and African Languages and Cultures (2017 intake). She will attend “International Workshop on Buddhism and East Asian Culture” in Taiwan from 13 to 21 January 2018.
This Workshop is jointly hosted by Dharam Drum Institue of Liberal Arts, Sheng Yen Education Foundation, College of Liberal Arts of San Yat Sen University and University of British Columbia. With motivation and desire for sustainable academic excellence in the field of East Asian Buddhism, she will have meaningful participation in this international workshop. She is a  young talent who possess drive, initiative, resilience, creativity and share the passion and commitment of IEAS for East Asian researches.
