	Professor and Director of IEAS 
 
	His research has focused on history of East Asian cultural exchange, Book Road, Japanese history and culture, and diplomatic history of Sui and Tang Dynasties. He writes a total of 46 scholaristic books. In recognition of his significant contributions to promoting international mutual understanding through academic and cultural pursuit, he was presented the prestigious Japanese Foundation Award in 2015.
