Nie's research is primarily concerned with English speaking scholaristic heritages in East Asian studies, especially the relations between East Asian literature in English and culture. Alongside his cultural research is a research interest in translation studies.
He writes and translates more than thirty articles for influential academic journals and publishes three academic books.
